  1. No dogs*
  2. No cycling
  3. Permit holders are required to carry their permit
  4. Permit also covers the partner of the person to whom it is issued, and any persons accompanying them. It is not intended to cover parties of more than 6 people.
  5. Abide to our opening times of 10am until dusk on weekdays. (Weekends dawn until dusk).

Wytham Woods was bequeathed to the University in 1943, and are now one of the most studied areas of woodland in the world. The bequest was made by the ffennell family after the death of their only child, Hazel, on condition that the woodlands were also left for the enjoyment of the people of Oxford. A permit system now allows walkers access to over 32 km of footpaths and there are regular guided walks to enable visitors to see and learn about the Woods’ wildlife. To sign up for your permit, simply visit the link on the menu to your left. We remind visitors to read our rules carefully, taking particular note that we do not permit dogs or cycling within the Woods.
